Summer School Tour brought pure alternative rock energy to The Observatory North Park with Honey Revenge, Games We Play, Winona Fighter, Chase Petra, and Earth to Cheska

The junior year edition of the Summer School Tour officially descended upon the region, transforming the venue into an absolute haven for alternative music lovers. Featuring a stacked lineup, this festival-style showcase drew a really diverse crowd of fans who arrived early and stayed late. The atmosphere inside was nothing short of electric from the moment the doors opened, buzzing with the excitement that only a dedicated multi-band rock tour can evoke. It quickly became clear that this year’s iteration was designed to push boundaries, celebrate community, and deliver a non-stop wave of amazing and exciting performances.

The marathon of live music kicked off with a spectacular set by Earth to Cheska, who had the distinct honor of serving as the local opener specifically chosen for this San Diego date. She came out with a massive bang and set a tremendously fun, energetic tone for the rest of the evening, immediately capturing the crowd’s attention and establishing a high standard of performance for the rest of the touring bands to follow.

Next up was Chase Petra, who delivered a beautifully fun and wonderfully chill performance that offered a perfect contrast to the heavy-hitting acts. The front-row fans were radiating pure happiness to see her command the stage, singing along to every word. She treated the crowd to a deeply resonant highlight of her set, sharing a brand-new song centered around the complexities and emotional weight of friendship breakups.

Keeping the momentum surging, Winona Fighter then blasted onto the stage with an immense wave of power and raw rock energy from the very beginning. The lead singer immediately commanded the audience to open up the mosh pit—which beautifully remained wide open for the entirety of their set. Amidst the chaos, they paused to deliver a deeply heartfelt message wishing everyone a happy Pride and Juneteenth, emphatically emphasizing the vital importance of teaching and learning about history, no matter how difficult things get or who tries to stand in the way. Their fierce performance featured hard-hitting tracks like I Think You Should Leave, You Look Like a Drunk Phoebe Bridgers BOMBS AWAY and WULFMURDER culminating in an absolutely blistering cover of the Beastie Boys’ classic, Sabotage.

Taking the stage next was Games We Play, marking their highly anticipated first live performance in over a year. Easily earning the title of the most interactive band of the night, they famously brought a lucky fan directly out of the crowd to play the piano during one of their numbers. In a beautiful, heartwarming moment, the singer’s recently born baby was also spotted out in the crowd, watching her dad perform live on stage. Another highlight was when the crowd went absolutely wild during a phenomenal, roaring drum solo that pushed the venue’s energy to one of the highest points of the night as the band tore through crowd favorites like Get A Job, Too Young, I Hope You’re Happy, and a thrilling sneak peek of an unreleased track.

Finally, Honey Revenge closed out the spectacular showcase with an explosion of color, dancing, and non-stop movement. The band members quite literally could not stop bouncing across the stage, matching their vibrant visuals with an extraordinarily tight sonic performance highlighted by the lead singer’s flawless vocals. Right during their second song, they challenged the venue to unleash a wave of crowd surfers while two crew members actively tallied everyone who made it over the barricade, ultimately racking up an impressive count of 17 surfers. They kept the floor shaking with tracks like Airhead, Worst Apology, and Rerun before officially announcing that a brand new album is on the way and giving the crowd a stellar live performance of their latest single, Butterfly Effect.

This incredible collective of artists is touring heavily together across the country, creating a tight-knit community on the road that translates beautifully to the stage each night. Adding a wonderfully unique element to the tour’s structure, the very first opening act of the lineup changes at every single stop, specifically highlighting and bringing out a talented local band from the visited city. To ensure you don’t miss any updates on the remaining dates of this incredible tour framework, upcoming album drops, or future lineup announcements, make sure to follow the Summer School Tour and all of tonight’s artists across their official social media platforms.
