Mt. Joy Illuminated The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park
Mt. Joy played a double set at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park on August 18. The band jammed from 7 to 10 with a short intermission in the middle. With only about a third of their “Hope We Have Fun Tour” left, Mt. Joy showed San Diego a good time. The band personalized this show to the San Diegans in the crowd by changing a line of their popular song “I’m Your Wreck” to “Come meet me in San Diego”.
This is their 10th anniversary world tour, so the show had a special meaning to the band, and the crowd could feel it. With no opening band, the crowd was treated to a mix of their previous hits and songs from their new album “Hope We Have Fun”. Many of their shows have openers, but since this one did not, San Diego got more time with Mt. Joy and their undeniable stage energy. Their stage lighting illuminated The Shell and the smiles on the faces in the crowd. “Art is Human” is a phrase that the band displayed on their back screen during the show that encapsulated the beauty and humanity of the night.
Mt. Joy’s laid-back music filled the open-air venue as fans danced through both sets. Whether fans knew every word or were simply enjoying the music, the energy stayed consistent through both sets. Three hours of music gave the band plenty of time to connect with the audience and make The Shell feel full of life.
Mt. Joy’s last show is on October 22 ending in Waco, TX. With 17 shows left, the band will cover many states in the US, from Oregon to New York.
