Brit Floyd Recreates the Magic Under the Stars at Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre

San Diego rock fans were treated to an incredible, immersive journey through the deep cuts and soaring highs of the Pink Floyd catalog on Saturday, July 12th. Taking over the beautiful, open-air bowl of the Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre, Brit Floyd brought their ambitious The Moon, The Wall and Beyond 2026 tour to town, delivering a spectacular two-set performance that felt remarkably faithful to the real thing.

The Immersive Living Room & Visual Spectacle
The production value of the show was nothing short of staggering. Towering laser arrays and dizzying cinematic visuals completely transformed the SDSU campus amphitheater into a pulsing, psychedelic capsule.
But what really made the night stand out was the intimate attention to conceptual detail. On stage, they constructed a replica of the minimalist 1970s living room from The Wall film adaptation. This set piece served as a brilliant emotional anchor—most notably during a heartbreakingly moving interpretation of “Nobody Home.” Seeing the solitary figure in the glowing light of the television while the music swelled brought an amazing theatrical depth to the performance.
The theatrical elements peaked during an unforgettable performance of “Comfortably Numb.” The lead singer emerged completely in character, donning the iconic doctor’s white coat while a “patient” sat slumped in the living room chair. Meanwhile, the glowing television screen played the exact, haunting static and imagery pulled straight from the movie, tying the whole sensory experience together perfectly. Other massive highlights included a menacingly sharp delivery of “Hey You” that sent chills through the open-air crowd.

Legendary Special Guests & An Impeccable Lineup
Musically, the band was remarkably tight, pulling together the intricate arrangements of The Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall with striking precision.
The vocal sections were bolstered by a phenomenal three-piece female chorus that featured a monumental connection to Pink Floyd history. Joining the group for this leg of the tour was Machan Taylor (who toured extensively as a backing vocalist with the original Pink Floyd on their A Momentary Lapse of Reason and Delicate Sound of Thunder runs). Flanked by the powerhouse backing vocals of Jesse Lee Houllier and Shannon Fayth, their soaring harmonies on tracks like “The Great Gig in the Sky” were absolutely transcendent.
Another unforgettable presence on stage was saxophone legend Scott Page (who famously toured with Pink Floyd, Toto, and Supertramp). Page’s blistering, soulful sax solos were an essential centerpiece of the night, breathing raw, live-wire energy into the setlist.
The entire touring ensemble was utterly flawless from start to finish:
Damian Darlington (Guitar, Lapsteel, Vocals & Musical Director)
Ian Cattell (Bass, Lead Vocals)
Rob Stringer (Keyboards, Hammond B3, Vocals)
Randy Cooke (Drums & Percussion)
Jamie Humphries (Guitars)
Rhiannon Dewey (Saxophone, Percussion, Multi-instrumentalist)

A High-Octane Finale & Looking Ahead
For the final explosive moment of the night, the band sent the San Diego crowd into a frenzy with a roaring encore of “Run Like Hell.” The blinding rhythm and pulsing light display had the entire open-air theater on its feet, closing out a massive celebration of progressive rock history.
Before taking their final bows, the band left the San Diego crowd with one major promise to look forward to: Brit Floyd will be returning next year with a brand-new tour dedicating a massive focus to the legendary album Animals, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2027. If Saturday night was any indication, you’ll want to secure your tickets the second they drop.
