Wavves transcends expectations at the Observatory North Park with Niis, Chokecherry, and Initiate

On their second-to-last stop of their celebratory Spun North American tour, surf rock punk pop icons Wavves took over the Observatory North Park with Niis, Chokecherry, and Initiate on July 24th.

Without a doubt, Niis is one of the most energetic bands in the modern scene, with hits like “Fuck You Boy” and “The Bow.” Niis takes your ears and eyes hostage and leaves your mind astounded. An easy match for Niis’ energy is eloquent and striking, chokecherry. An air of confidence reflected in both their music and stage presence, these alt indie rock icons were perfect openers for Wavves. Hardcore band Initiate kicked things off with their strong vocals and imperturbable rhythm, their undeniable energy a perfect reflection of their California origins.

Originally from San Diego, their perfect homecoming had Wavves ready to take on the world. After the release of their new album, Wavves has brought their music to new heights with a crispier, summery new sound, most reflected in the album’s namesake “Spun.” While tired, as they reached the 24th stop of their 25-stop tour, Wavves still put their best foot forward, their music didtintly unrestrained and honest. Their grove turned the Observatory North Park into a colossal mosh pit, with flashing lights and a jumping crowd. The band came ready to conquer, and conquer they did.

Wavves couldn’t go wrong, beginning their set with “Way Too Much,” and included other distinct hits like “Spun,” “Nine is God,” and “Goner.” They played their last night of the Spun North American tour on July 25th in LA, but Wavves’ break from touring won’t last long; they begin their UK+Europe tour in February at Yes in Manchester.
