Fitz And The Tantrums took Humphrey’s Concerts By The Bay as high as the man on the moon with Ax And The Hatchetmen.

Fitz And The Tantrums kicked off the Man On The Moon tour July 24th at the picturesque Humphrey’s Concerts By The Bay, celebrating their sixth studio album that evening. With a setlist leaning heavily on their latest albums, they still dug down for some crowd-pleasing deep cuts. Lead singers Fitz and Noelle both took time to connect with the dedicated San Diego fans, reminiscing over early shows at the Casbah and other favorite SD haunts and hangs.

Chicago-based indie rockers Ax And The Hatchetmen opened with a sunset set welcomed enthusiastically by a vocal group of dedicated fans. Confessions of love as well as shout outs to lead singer Axel wondering where he parked his car (iykyk) rang out throughout their set, clearly entertaining the young musicians. Their boisterous, upbeat energy proved infectious, bringing the crowd in close early on in the show and earning the group more than a few new fans.

When Fitz And The Tantrums took the stage, the multi-generational crowd shifted into high gear right along with the performers. Working every square inch of the stage, Michael Fitzpatrick and Noelle Scaggs led their fans in singing and dancing along with their signature soulful anthems coupled with a heaping helping of new tracks from Man On The Moon. The title track and Noelle’s Young Days both drew enthusiastic receptions from the audience, who were all ready for brand new tunes from the Tantrums. The performers knew just how to keep everyone moving and grooving, serving up favorite classic tracks like Moneygrabber and Out Of My League from their early albums interspersed with the newer soon-to-be hits. Of course, fans young and old all hit the floor with Handclap as the show closer, more than satisfied with witnessing this latest musical chapter, celebrating the new album backed with the enduring power of Fitz And The Tantrum’s feel-good sound.
