A lot of words get thrown around when someone describes a Schizophonics show. Explosive, Frenzied, Fuzzed. Steeped in psychedelic melody and passionate performances, the band has become a staple of the San Diego music scene.
Formed in 2009 by Pat & Lety Beers, The Schizophonics lit the fuse on a 1960’s groove bomb that tore down the walls of the garage and has since landed them in venues all over the world. Their wild stage presence scooped up “Best Live Band” and “Best Hard Rock” at 2015’s San Diego Music Awards, but due to a European tour, were not present to accept. I’d say that not being able to personally receive two SDMA awards because you’re too busy playing shows in Spain is a quality problem.
Single “I can’t take it” hasn’t stopped making the rounds across music outlets galore, and was recently named NPR Los Angeles “Song of the Week”. With only four songs up on their official site and the growing fuzz surrounding the band, one can only hope an LP will be coming out some time this year.
Whether they are rocking out with the likes of Billy Idol and Interpol at 2014’s Wrex the Halls or headlining Bar Pink at last years San Diego Music Thing, The Schitzophonics are a force that must be seen to believed.
