1. CHAKA KHAN

I’m every woman, it’s all in me. Do I need to say more? The queen of FUNK is here to slay Pitchfork Chicago and we couldn’t be more excited. With over 70 million records sold, it’s no doubt that this lady powerhouse will bring the soulful grooves to Union Park. If you’re still not convinced, well let’s just say, I Feel For You.

2. PITCHFORK

Created in 1995, Pitchfork is an American online magazine that has stayed true to its focus on independent musicians. This festival lineup is eclectic, affordable and going to bring the best mix of music loving fans together to celebrate all things strange, sexy and unique. Pitchfork stays on point on their album and artist reviews, never selling out and supporting worldwide independent artists. ListenSD got the chance to cover Pitchfork Paris last year and we can’t wait to check out Pitchfork Music Festival Chicago in the birthplace of this publication.

3. BLOOD ORANGE

If you haven’t listened to Blood Orange than you are in for a treat. This British singer, songwriter, producer and dancer is better than a freshly squeezed Blood Orange mimosa on a sunny Sunday afternoon. His 80s beats and grooves are blended with a hint of R&B, soul and uptempo melodies make you want to dance, sending your body into a euphoria while his vocal chords send chills down your spine. If you’ve felt heartache, attraction, been in relationship that was just comfortable or are feeling a new love desire, than Dev Heynes will strike a chord in your heart.

4. LAURYN HILL

All hail the QUEEN, miss Lauryn Hill. Her pivotal work in the 90s helped shape the way R&B is listened to today. Her work with The Fugees garnered her much attention with top charting hits like “Ready or Not” and “Killing Me Softly With His Words.” She broke off to create her own solo debit project, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill with “Doo Wop (That Thing).” Her thoughtful lyrics with a blend of reggae, R&B and rap will make seeing her live be nothing short of That Thing.

5. TAME IMPALA

Tame Impala have become a national treasure to the spacey psych pop world. Perth-based Aussie psych rockers have created mind melting music that will in fact make you levitate into another dimension. Their 2010 album Innerspeaker, mixed by Dave Fridmann, gained the band popularity among the indie psych rockers with hits like “Expectation” and “Why Won’t You Talk to Me.” Fast forward to 2017 with their latest record, Currents that put this band on the national charts with over 5 million monthly listeners, they are now hands down the most popular psych pop band of 2018. That doesn’t affect their live performance that will grab hold of your brain, dip it in a bucket a jello, shake it around and put it back in your skull for you decide how you feel afterwards. ListenSD will be front and center waiting for the moment to touch Kevin Parker’s bare feet.

6. FOOD VENDORS

If you weren’t already impressed by the musical lineup that Pitchfork put together this year, you’ll be enthralled by their food selection. Every year Pitchfork Music Festival hosts independent retail vendors supporting Chicago’s local food businesses that keeps our tummies happy. This year their selection includes local favorites: Billy Goat Tavern, Chicago Diner, Donermen Food Truck, Connie’s Pizza, Dia de los Tamales and more. We know we our ears and stomach will stay full at this year’s Pitchfork Music Festival.

7. LOCATION

Hosted in the beautiful Union Park Chicago near West Side, this park is an important part of Chicago’s history. In 1910 this was one of the only racially integrated parks in the city and today it is bringing the culture of Chicago’s finest musicians from all different backgrounds and ethnicities together. ListenSD can’t wait to experience this music festival at this historic landmark.
