Florence and The Machine Drop New Track “Sky Full of Song” and Official Video. Falling from heaven never sounded so necessary
Offering a complete artistic vision, Florence + The Machine released not only the audio of “Sky Full of Song” April 12th, but also a striking black & white video representation to accompany it. This track is the first to be published off the upcoming album “High as Hope”, the band’s 4th installment. Following a two-year silence, ‘eagerly received by audiences’ is an understatement, especially considering the dedication and reach of Florence Welch’s following. A 7″ single release will be available on April 21st, in celebration of Record Store Day.
Much like the former album’s title track, “How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful”, the song’s theme traverses the heavens & earth in a fall from grace, and weathers a feeling of heartache. However this time around, the doomed subject of the tale is the singer herself, instead of star crossed lovers.

Welch’s vocals enter acapella, then a pensive composition of bass, violin, harp and piano join her side as she reflectively articulates life. Her robust vocals demonstrate a resiliency throughout even the most defeated lines, signaling more of a demand for reprieve, or better yet, time to ground.
“And I thought I was flying but maybe I’m dying tonight
Hold me down, I’m so tired now
Aim your arrow at the sky (shoot, shoot, shoot)
Take me down, I’m too tired now
Leave me where I lie (Fire)”
Welch spoke of “Sky Full of Song” commenting it “fell out of the sky, fully formed.” “Sometimes when you are performing you get so high, it’s hard to know how to come down,” she said. “There is this feeling of being cracked open, rushing endlessly outwards and upwards, and wanting somebody to hold you still, bring you back to yourself. It’s an incredible, celestial, but somehow lonely feeling.” 
A reoccuring scene in the “Sky Full of Song” official video is reminiscent of the “Heavy In Your Arms” visuals, with Welch lying alone on the floor, lifelessly singing in black and white. Both songs speak to the polarity felt when life’s greatests gifts to the singer (her career & love respectively), also feel like a curse. However in this new release, the video closes in color, with sunlight illuminating a planted orchid where she once laid.
