Underscores thrills at the Observatory North Park with UMRU

The third night of her 2026 Galleria tour, April Harper Grey, known as underscores, electrified the Observatory North Park with opener UMRU. Following the recent release of her album “U” and a massive uptick in popularity, underscores put on a show tailored to a new generation of pop.

Guarded with his hallmark headlamp and danceable remixes, UMRU was kicky and alive. He had the venue moving, as shaky bass and moving feet filled the room. Alongside original songs, UMRU mixed classics from legends, Kim Petras, Bladee, and even a snippet of bbno$ and Dua Lipa, but the room truly lit up when he remixed Ninajirachi’s “London Song” with Fergie’s “London Bridge.”

From the second Underscores walked onstage to the second she left, her energy didn’t drop once. She is a true pioneer in her genre, writing the story of a new generation of rebellion. With a camera as her shadow, and her image projected onstage, she hardly stayed in one place for longer than a song. The vibrant energy of her music reflected in her unfaltering vivacity. Underscores captures an almost inexpressible nostalgia; screen visuals reflecting that 2000s-era iPod branding, paired with her unique sound and hyper energy, accentuate a kind of longing for the earlier days of technology. The show almost felt like a musical glitch in the matrix, a few hours of true danceable freedom amongst the hard times of today.

Underscores didn’t miss a single hit. She played highlights from U like “Music,” “Do It,” and “The Peace” alongside “Locals (girls like us)” and an incredibly executed cover of Kimj’s “1-800-FUCKOFF.” She continues the American leg of her Galleria tour until September, and extends it into Europe with dates in November.
