Sugar Candy Mountain made us feel like we were still at Desert Daze this past week at Soda Bar, and charmed the whole crowd with the sweetest psychedelic pop vibrations.
It was definitely feeling like Desert Daze was still in full swing when Sugar Candy Mountain came to town. After playing the fest, the group went on a tour promote their new album, Do Right, released earlier this May. The DJ for the night was Andrew McGranahan, who was playing all the DD fest classics such as Ty Segall, Thee Oh Sees, and King Khan.
The first band to take the stage was The Gift Machine, coming out of North San Diego County. They had that fresh band feel to them, and a pretty chill energy. Their songs reminded one of a deep country movie soundtrack.
Now the time had come for Sugar Candy Mountain, and once that bass started strumming it felt like they were on a whole different level. A familiar aura filled the room, making everyone sway with every note, busting out popular tracks like “666″ and “Tired” — psychedelic music at its finest.
As a group, they approached the stage with such a professional mood, and they were well connected in their songs, which made the songs flow perfectly. This band was a real treat to see.
