Wednesday night, Modern Baseball rocked the House of Blues alongside Joyce Manor and Thin Lips on the Holy Ghost tour, in promotion of their third full length album by the same name.
Female-fronted Thin Lips set the scene with flighty, heavily riffed punk. Tonight was a huge dance party. Thin Lips showed that girl vocalists can rock along with their male counterparts. They played songs off of their most recent album, Divorce Year, including songs โNothing Weirdโ and โNever Again.โ Their powerful tunes pumped the crowd up for more fun punk.
Joyce Manor went up next opening with โConstant Nothing.โ They kept their angry punk energy alive with the most famous songs in the midpoint of their set, pulling heart strings with โFalling In Love Again.โ They featured a cover of the Murder City Devilsโ โMidnight Service at the Mutter Museumโ that the crowd sang with an extra ounce of enthusiasm. They closed with โSchleyโ and โCatalina Fight Song.โ
Pennsylvania rockers Modern Baseball headlined the show, featuring many songs off Holy Ghost released in May. Excitement filled the crowd, every attendee sang his or her heart out to songs about high school and the perils of love. The bandโs hit song โYour Graduationโ ended the night, but members came back onstage for an encore, singing โJust Another Face.โ Guitarist/vocalist Jake Ewald concluded the concert breathily with โWhat a lovely night itโs been, all of us here together, with live music,โ and that it absolutely was.
