Sonido Gallo Negro brings their psichedelic cumbia back to San Diego

Sonido Gallo Negro is back on tour and they’ll be playing at Music Box on April 6th. We had the opportunity to catch up with them ahead of their show, check our our conversation below!
ListenSD: You’ve been touring for a while now. What are some of the most memorable moments from your previous tours?
Sonido Gallo Negro: Connect with the audience who love and have true interest and respect for the Mexican-Latín culture is the most exciting thing for us.
LSD: You’re originally from Mexico City. What are some of your favorite local bands that have influenced your music or any band that you listen to on repeat?
SGN: We like CDMX RnR Scene we like bands that put a lot of work in their music and in their concept, for example Vinnum Sabatti and Sgt Pappers are great bands with an Internacional quality.

LSD: You’ve played in different states in the U.S. What are some of your favorite venues to play or one that you like the most?
SGN: We love venues where the audience is open to hear something a little different than the traditional cumbia, we are excited to play in New Orleans and Tucson for the first time.
LSD: What’s the biggest difference you’ve noticed in audiences between the US and Mexico?
SGN: It’s weird because right now there’s not much difference like there was 8 years ago, both are people with a heart and soul that love the music… maybe the purchasing power obviously.

For instance, I LOVE chicken and waffles, but I also love asian food, I think we have the best in California.
