We caught up with our friends of Almost Monday right before their stellar homecoming show at Soma Side Stage and we chatted about some of their favorite San Diego things, here’s our conversation with them:

ListenSD: What’s your favorite San Diego band (past or present)?
Luke – If I had to choose I would say Switchfoot because they’re consistently giving back to the community through events like the BroAm and just being cool dudes. Great music too.
Cole: I’d say my favorite band out of SD is probably Pinback. I’ve been a fan of theirs for a long time but I also love the switchfoot guys. They are the hometown heroes for us!
LSD: You’ve played some awesome venues around the world, but which would be your favorite San Diego venue to perform at and what makes it special?
Dawson: It’s no longer a venue but there used to be a spot called univ in Encinitas and it was where we played all of our early shows as a band. It was an old surf shop right across the street from swamis and getting it packed out with our friends from high-school were some of my favorite memories from the band.
LSD: San Diego has a really diverse music scene. Which local artists or bands would you like to see get more attention?
Dawson: A Lot of really cool bands and artists out of San Diego. One of my favorites right now is Francis Blume out of oceanside.
Cole: Shoutout to my brother’s band The Happy Return
LSD: When you’re not making music, what are some of your favorite San Diego spots to hang out or grab food?
Luke – My two favorite spots are Board and Brew and Best Pizza. Good vibes and good food. I wish that they had more locations around the country. Try the Turkado (melted with 2 sauces).
Dawson: Gonzo! Best ramen in town
Cole: The taco stand and Fish 101.
LSD: Lastly, If you could collaborate with any San Diego musician (past or present), who would it be and why?
Cole: It would be cool to work on something with TV Girl. We loved the music they put out with Jordana and had her feature on our song Jupiter recently.
You can catch the band next at the San Diego Music Awards.
