Anyone lucky enough to make it out to see the lovers of Kisses at Soda Bar on January 23 might have been nursing sore legs the next day. Both sides of the room were packed with young twenty to thirty-somethings enjoying their Thursday to the nostalgic sounds of the LA-based group comprised of married couple Jesse Kivel and Zinzi Edmundson.
The group played numerous songs from their first full-length album, The Heart of the Nightlife, loosening the crowd up with its electronic, tropical tracks. The intimacy of Soda Bar allowed for a great view of the stage as Edmundson head-bobbed on her keyboard and Kivel scanned the room, jokingly demanding to know what excitement audience members had experienced that day.
The flow between older tracks to the newer off of their most recent album, Kids in LA, was seamless due to the energy kept up by the group. The 80s freestyle-inspired songs off of the sophomore album had the crowd busting a move until the set ended. After thanking the crowd, Kivel announced that there was no point in “pretending to leave” because an encore was necessary. Try and catch these cuties next on tour with Washed Out!
