Beloved Sweetheart of Indie Rock/Pop, Julieta Venegas serenaded the Sold-Out show at House of Blues in Downtown San Diego.
Ace of all and queen of hearts, Julieta Venegas, stood full of admiration as the troubadour that she is. Gracefully slinging an accordion and guitar during her performance she had the audience in the palm of her hands. The excitement and giddiness of the fans in the atmosphere was contagious. Consistent orders of Tequila and Tecates at the bar only fueled the happy and excited crowd even more, While i was right along with them. The all-ages crowd were unified by praise and veneration for the Mexican Songstress.
The opening act was Cnizah, as they got the ball rolling with distorted guitar solos and heavy rock driven drums. Cnizah rocked the room but they were juxtaposed to the audience’s attire and vibe that was composed of mostly women who were there to see a darling of another genre. They were stellar but the audience was there with a golden solid purpose and that was to see the six time Latin Grammy winner and one time Grammy winner Julieta Venegas.
Venegas performed songs off her 2015 Latin Grammy winning album Algo Sucede. “Ese Camino” had great feedback while the audience sang and danced along. It was songs like “Andar Conmigo”, “Lento”, and the breakup anthem “Me Voy” that had the room filled with walls of sound that came from the audience belting out the lyrics along the artist’s every breath. Within her songs Venegas also gave a warmhearted nod to the late Mexican Pop Artist Juan Gabriel. Short phrases from Gabriel’s “Querida” and “El Noa Noa” were repeated as a sign of respect and influence that the pop singer had on her. The audience responded to every call she made.
The love that San Diego has for Venegas was clear within the smiles and wide eyes of the audience. San Diegans will be waiting patiently again for her next visit. Qué lástima pero adios, Julieta. Until next time.
