Timing could not have been more perfect for the beachy tunes of Cayucas to shake things up at the Casbah.  Hailing from Santa Monica, Cayucas frontman Zach Yudin’s perfectly harmonized vocals with twin brother Ben Yudin guided the audience into a musical paradise.  Honestly, the only things missing were some pina coladas, Hawaiian shirts and longboards– everything else about the night’s show was quintessential summer in SoCal.
The band’s trademark beachy-pop sound is reminiscent of “Vampire Weekend meets Jack Johnson”.  The timeless rifts of “East Coast Girl” and “A Summer Thing” kept things light, while the slower rhythms of the debut album’s title track “BigFoot” and “Will ‘the Thrill” kept the swaying crowd relaxed to the max.  As expected, the tropical vibes of “Cayucos” and “High School Lover” were the crowd favorites.
So thanks to Cayucas trademark beachy-pop sound, for the first time in Casbah history, there were more Coronas sold in a night than PBRs.
