Kevin McKeown and Eric Owen, the Austin-based duo known as Black Pistol Fire, set Belly Up on fire last week with their blues-infused rock.
It is no surprise that The Belly Up was packed on a Thursday night to see Black Pistol serve the crowd a giant dose of raw rock-n-roll.
The band was last in San Diego in 2017 in support of their album Deadbeat Graffiti.
One of the evening’s many highlights was McKeown stage diving into the crowd. Those dead center had been enjoying getting pelted with giant drops of sweat that fell from McKeown’s hair, face, arms, t-shirt throughout the night, and when McKeown jumped into the audience to crowd surf as well as sing a song, he made his energy available to the entire crowd. He also jumped back and forth to the narrow table to the side of the stage, where seated audience members received an unexpected visit as he played on top of their empty plates and glasses.
The talented and raucous women of Thunderpussy were the perfect supporting act for the evening. Lead singer Molly Sides, a trained dancer, was a force behind the microphone. She was charismatic and connected with the audience immediately.
