Bad Nerves struck at Observatory North Park with SF’s Spiritual Cramp and SD’s Blair Gun

Bad Nerves and Spiritual Cramp headed into the California stretch of the Still Nervous tour last week at the Observatory North Park (culminating a few days later in a San Fran homecoming for Spiritual Cramp). The bands toured together throughout late April and May, thrilling audiences from coast to coast with plenty of stops in between.  This night in San Diego proved especially energetic, with the bands prowling and pouncing all over the Observatory stage.

Local favorites Blair Gun warmed up the sound system, adding another winning notch to their belt playing their largest hometown stage to date.  The Blair Gun boys Joedin (vocals, guitar), Zach (guitar), Jake (drums), and Aston (bass) have impressed at numerous local shows and house parties (for the kids!) including their recent February residency at the Casbah.  They wasted no time announcing themselves to the early crowd, many of whom were already happily familiar.

Spiritual Cramp took to the stage and the adjacent airspace next, with nearly all members spending time in the air, aside from drummer Julian Smith.  Notable for his delivery and energy (not to mention his hangtime), Michael Bingham once again riled up the San Diego crowd as he’s done at venues across the county. Relentlessly pacing the stage, he launched both his microphone and himself skyward almost every song, perfectly punctuating the peaks of their hardcore post-punk.

Bad Nerves codified the energy of the evening, blazing through their rapid-fire power pop-punk anthems in delivering the main event.  Frontman Bobby Bird fully occupied the stage from end to end, showing no shortage of enthusiasm late in the tour.
