Confidence Man plays Saturday at CRSSD Fest Fall 2024

It’s confidence, man.

It’s all in the name: brimming with their club kid chutzpah, Confidence Man finally arrives in San Diego to treat their fans to the Con Man festival experience already sweeping other continents by storm.

Who they are

Confidence Man began on a lark in Brisbane in 2016: four musically-inclined mates got munted and started mucking about with creating dance tunes inspired by tried-and-true, classic techno/rave riddims.  Feeling slightly less dero later on and taking a fresh listen to their creations, the foursome just knew that something good was gonna happen, and the Con Man dance unit properly assembled.  Janet Planet and Sugar Bones take center stage, comprising the vocal/dance team of the group and are well-famous for their athleticism (they’re clearly in the early lead to helm the Aussie Indie Pop Dance team next Olympiad).  Safely ensconced in the shadows and their identity-protecting, all-black beekeeper outfits, Clarence McGuffie and Reggie Goodchild (the Bonnet Boys) stay behind the drum kit and the electronics and keep all the dancing boys and girls busy with their beats and breaks. Together, the four mates bring their confident sound to the stage in spades, with plenty to share with their confident crowd.

What to expect

Each Con Man set involves multiple costume changes (the band’s signature look lovingly tailored by Janet Planet’s devoted mother) and constantly changing choreography (the band often shares rehearsals of new moves online) designed to wow the crowd and get them roaring on their feet.  Brought over by the keen ear of Heavenly Recordings label head Jeff Barrett, the foursome quickly became London staples (where they currently reside) and toured Europe and their native Australia, having great success as festival mainstays.  While Confidence Man’s music is well-suited for the club or the warehouse (check out their DJ sets!), Janet and Sugar’s outpouring of 3am, rave-level energy on daytime festival goers has already passed into legend.

Where to see them next

The Americas have eagerly awaited the storming of their shores by the grand coming of Confidence Man, with mostly LA or New York one-off shows cropping up in recent years. All that changes now, because the East Coast will finally enjoy the experience en masse as the band embarks on a US/Canada tour supporting Sofi Tukker, with dates from now through October 12th.  Luckily for ListenSD and those in SoCal, San Diego’s CRSSD Fest Fall 2024 will bring the Con Man energy across the country to the Ocean View stage promptly at 2:15pm Saturday, September 28th for their only upcoming West Coast appearance.  Day one tickets have already sold out, hope you have yours so we can see you there!
