Anxious brings hype to The Voodoo room with Ultra Q and Stateside

Last Friday, March 22nd, Anxious brought their celebratory tour for their new album Bambi to the House of Blues Voodoo Room. The token Connecticut band brought the energy, as encouraged by Ultra Q and Stateside.

Stateside started the night off with a boomβ€”their music holding influence from emo and hardcore, with a mix of pop punk.  It’s easy to tell that Stateside is a band with a strong connection to the audience. Jumping around and standing directly on the barricade to sing to attendees, there was no better band to open up the night and set the tone for excitement.

Following Stateside, Oakland-based Ultra Q took the stage. With similar undertones to Anxious, Ultra Q was a perfect choice for a middle act. While slightly slower in comparison to the energy of the accompanying bands, Ultra Q built anticipation with their post-punk twang. They’re led by Jakob Armstrong on vocals and guitar, with Enzo Malaspina on guitar, Kevin Judd on bass, and Chris Malaspina on drums.

After hours of excitement, Anxious began their set. As soon as they hit the stage, the audience instantly went crazy. With crowd surfers, and the audience jumping and singing along all night, it’s undeniable that Anxious knows how to stir a crowd. Varying between emo and pop punk with an incredibly strong hardcore influence; Members Grady and Sam Allen, Jonny Camner, Dante Melucci, and Tommy Harte played a combination of both old and new music. An exceptional album, and for all the right reasons, Bambi is perfect to hear live. Signed to Run for Cover Records, their future and fanbase is guaranteed to grow. The Bambi tour will continue until mid-April, with dates in Denver, Chicago, and New York among many others.
