Andy Bell Reigns at Music Box San Diego

Last Wednesday, December 10th, the Music Box in San Diego transformed into a shimmering temple of synth-pop as Andy Bell brought his Ten Crowns Tour to a capacity crowd. Hundreds of fans lined up down India Street hours before the doors opened, proving that the Erasure front man remains a vital force in the music elite.

The evening launched with Savannah Pope, a rock-glam powerhouse from Los Angeles. Pope commanded the stage with a voice that balances raw power and theatrical precision. Her set felt like a high-art rock spectacle, providing a high-energy contrast to the synth-heavy night ahead. She engaged the early arrivals immediately, setting a bold tone for the evening.

When Andy Bell finally appeared, he looked every bit the legend in a custom disco ball suit. The outfit caught every beam of light in the venue, scattering reflections across the ecstatic faces in the front row. Bell remains a consummate professional; he maintained constant eye contact with his fans, sharing charming anecdotes between songs and dancing with a genuine, humble joy that made the large room feel like an intimate club.
His new album, Ten Crowns, released earlier this year in collaboration with producer Dave Audé, fits seamlessly into his storied discography. Tracks from the new record carry the same infectious, upbeat spirit that has defined Erasure’s career for four decades.

Bell understands his audience’s heartbeat. The setlist struck a perfect balance between new material and the iconic anthems that have soundtracked generations. The crowd erupted for: “Chains of Love”“I Love to Hate You” “Xanadu” (a stunning cover that brought a disco flair to the room)

The undisputed emotional peak occurred when Bell paused to acknowledge a special guest in the crowd: his Erasure partner, Vince Clarke. The room fell into a collective state of awe at the sight of the two legends together in the same space.

The night culminated in a massive sing-along of the classic “A Little Respect,” a moment that solidified the show as one of the best San Diego has seen this year. Accompanied by a stellar backing band, Bell delivered a vocal performance that proved his status as a pop titan is well-earned.

Seeing such a legend perform with this level of passion and reception was a true honor for our city. We already look forward to the next time Andy Bell decides to turn San Diego into his personal dance floor.
