Anderson .Paak brought his prolific energy, funk and soulful performance to Cal Coast Open Air Theater.
Is there anything this man can’t do? The multi-instrumentalist, Grammy-award winning artist has published over 100 songs in his relatively short career. He brings a new age soul to his music that can be felt throughout his lyrics and melodic tunes. Since the rise of critically-adorned albums, Oxnard and Ventura, he has asserted himself as one the most exciting up-and-coming hip hop/R&B artists breaking into the scene. Being the golden child of Dr. Dre, who produced his last two albums, Paak has continued to rise to greatness.
His band, The Free Nationals, took the stage as their set began with “Heart Don’t Stand A Chance” as he elevated behind his drum set taking the stage. His smile, energy, and sound created palpable energy amongst the crowd. Wearing a colorful psychedelic short-sleeve suit and lime green bucket hat, Paak got the audience turnt up, shouting words from his classics “Tints” and “6 Summers”.
He closed the set with an emotional encore performing the collab with his late friend Mac Miller-Dang! With photos of the two displayed on the LED screen and followed with closing the night off with Lite Weight off his 2016 hit record, Malibu.
Next time this rising star comes to town, go see him and his band, The Free Nationals for a night of funk, soul and good vibes.
