As an adult who once listened to STRFKR on the bus on the way to high school over a decade ago, I can confidently say that seeing this band perform live now still maintains the same nostalgic energy in their tunes and stage presence. The band brought forth their classic style of thought provoking dance-y jams, with a twist of jaw dropping awe through their mysterious set design, artistic illustrative videos, and backup dancers in a variety of costumes throughout the show.
An avid San Diego concert goer, who first saw them years ago at Coachella, stated: “What a great set, they’re not even half way through their show yet and they’ve already hit some of their new album and some of their classics.”
Supporting artists The Holy Wave and Ruth Radelet killed it. The audience felt that as a long time fans of STRFKR, they were excited to be introduced to upcoming bands with a similar rhythmic style.
I can’t even begin to explain how impressed I was by this show. The band mixed songs from 2008’s self titled album “Starfucker” and songs from their new album “Parallel Realms.” It was splendid and satisfying mix of tunes, accentuated by the spectacle of confetti shot into the audience, and an outfit change for the backup dancers into astronaut costumes towards the end of the show. It was such a breath of fresh air to see this band still bringing the heat over a decade later from their beginning.
