On May 30, co-headliners Smino and Saba brought one of the year’s most anticipated hip hop tours to The Sound at Del Mar. The longtime collaborators and close friends have each carved out unique spaces within the genre, blending introspective lyricism, genre-bending production, and magnetic stage presence. With a packed house eager to see both artists share the stage, the atmosphere inside the venue felt electric long before the music began.

Saba opened the evening with a dynamic set that highlighted the depth of his catalog and the connection he has built with his audience. Moving effortlessly between reflective tracks and high-energy anthems, he kept fans engaged throughout his performance. One of the night’s most memorable moments came when Saba responded to a fan request from the crowd, creating an intimate exchange that made a large venue feel unexpectedly personal.

When Smino took the stage, the energy shifted into overdrive. Delivering a nonstop hour-and-fifteen-minute set without an encore break, he commanded the room with his smooth vocals, undeniable charisma, and seamless transitions between songs. Midway through the performance, Saba returned to join Smino for several fan-favorite collaborations, sending the crowd into a frenzy and underscoring the chemistry that has made their partnership so beloved.

Beyond the performances themselves, the production at The Sound elevated the entire experience. Dynamic lighting amplified the energy onstage while complementing the distinct styles of both artists. As the final songs rang out and venue staff prepared to close the night, it was clear that audiences had witnessed something special. More than a concert, Smino and Saba’s stop in Del Mar felt like a celebration of friendship, collaboration, and the power of live music to bring people together.
