Puma Blue and Salami Rose Joe Louis at Music Box

On February 18th, Puma Blue brought his smoky jazz and indie rock fusion to a packed house at Music Box. With opener Salami Rose Joe Louis, the show unfolded as an immersive, slow- burning exploration of layered instrumentation and moody ambiance.

Salami Rose Joe Louis, multi-instrumentalist and producer Lindsay Olsen, delivered an unpredictable yet captivating yet. Shifting between airy vocals, warped synths, and jazzy grooves, she brought her boundary pushing production style to life. The intimate, experimental performance drew the crowd in early and set the tone for the evening’s atmospheric arc.

When Puma Blue (Jacob Allen), and his band stepped onstage, the atmosphere deepened into something darker and more intimate. Washed in a romantic blue light, Allen leaned into his signature falsetto and brooding lyricism, delivering delicate, yet piercingly clear vocals. Backed by a tightly knit band, Puma Blue elevated the performance through extended jazz improvisations, adding an organic depth without losing momentum. From above, the interplay between musicians was truly captivating. Between the subtle cues, swelling dynamics, and constrained moments of silence, the audience was lured into the smooth guitar lines that drifted over the crisp, electric percussion.

Tracks from his 2026 album Croak Dream, including “Desire” and “Silently”, showcased just how far Puma Blue’s sound has evolved, becoming something richer, fuller, and more expansive in a live setting. Hearing Allen’s earlier releases like “Want Me” made that growth even more notable, highlighting the shift from his raw intimacy to a more layered and exploratory sound in his newest album. Fan favorite “Moon Under Water” brought the night to a hypnotic close, as the crowd lingered in its smooth, sensual groove long after the final chord. More than just a performance, the evening felt like a carefully built atmosphere that held space for vulnerability, connection, and a quiet intensity that defines the world of Puma Blue.
