Superando los obstáculos: Una charla exclusiva con Midnight Generation

A veces, la tecnología no está de nuestro lado, pero la música y la perseverancia siempre ganan. Tras nuestra entrevista con Midnight Generation en el festival CRSSD, nos enfrentamos a una serie de fallas técnicas que dificultaron la transcripción original. Sin embargo, nos negamos a dejar esta charla en los archivos; no podíamos darnos por vencidos, especialmente tratándose de una de las propuestas más frescas y auténticas de la escena mexicana actual.

Ahora que la banda se prepara para regresar a San Diego para compartir escenario con gigantes como Empire of the Sun y Polo & Pan en Gallagher Square, es el momento perfecto para rescatar esta conversación. Aquí les dejamos nuestra charla con el talento originario de Chihuahua, recuperada y lista para calentar motores antes de su próximo gran show en nuestra ciudad.

ListenSD: ¿Qué representa para ustedes el triunfo al presentarse en un festival de esta magnitud como lo es CRSSD?

Midnight Generation: Ha sido realmente un reto para nosotros. Hemos estado trabajando mucho en nuestra música y nos hace muy felices poder tocar en diferentes países. Recibir el cariño de la gente latina en cada lugar al que vamos ha sido una experiencia emocionante.

LSD: ¿Cuál es la diferencia entre su set para un festival frente al de un venue más íntimo?

Midnight Generation: Cuando organizas un show para festival tienes que traer mucha energía. Tienes que elegir las canciones principales y los elementos que mejor conecten. Al final del día, se trata de mostrar lo que somos; nos gusta esa cura de compartir nuestra esencia desde el escenario.

LSD: Al ser una banda mexicana, les toca trabajar mucho en el extranjero. ¿Cómo viven esa diferencia de experiencias?

Midnight Generation: Creemos que, aunque no siempre se vea a tantos artistas mexicanos fuera, hay muchísimo talento en nuestro país. No hay razón para no hacer música que pueda cruzar fronteras. Estamos haciendo lo nuestro, aprendiendo un montón al estar en diferentes países; ha sido una experiencia muy interesante ver cómo la banda sigue creciendo y avanzando.

LSD: ¿Alguna banda mexicana de su generación o con la que hayan colaborado que nos puedan recomendar?

Midnight Generation: ¡Claro! A mí como productor me gusta mucho Alanisky y todo lo que está haciendo con su disco. También el proyecto de Los Épicos. Hay muchos profesionales nacionales haciendo cosas increíbles. Uno de los retos suele ser el idioma, porque a veces nos preguntan por qué cantamos en inglés, pero siempre decimos que la música es el idioma universal. No importa si eres mexicano, turco o brasileño, la música conecta igual.

LSD: Hay muchas bandas saliendo de lugares como Tijuana. ¿Qué nos pueden decir de la escena en México actualmente?

Midnight Generation: Tijuana es uno de los lugares con más historia. Es muy padre ver cómo se están dando las cosas, especialmente en el norte, y ver cómo se premia a los artistas. Hay amigos con los que hemos hablado por años que siguen ahí y nuevos proyectos que están surgiendo; es una experiencia muy bonita.

LSD: Entre tantas giras, ¿qué es lo que más extrañan de su vida cotidiana?

Midnight Generation: Yo creo que la rutina. Al final del día, intentamos ser personas auténticas. Cuando estás en tu etapa profesional y con este ritmo de vida, no te detienes a pensar mucho, pero siempre se agradece el tiempo de tocar y compartir.

LSD: ¿Planes de regresar a San Diego pronto?

Midnight Generation: Si, definitivamente!

Overcoming Obstacles: An Exclusive Chat with Midnight Generation

Sometimes technology isn’t on our side, but music and perseverance always win. After our interview with Midnight Generation at CRSSD Festival, we faced technical glitches that made the original transcription a challenge. However, we refused to let this conversation go unheard. We couldn’t give up, especially when dealing with one of the freshest and most authentic acts in the Mexican scene today.

As the band prepares to return to San Diego to share the stage with giants like Empire of the Sun and Polo & Pan at Gallagher Square, it’s the perfect time to rescue this conversation. Here is our chat with the Chihuahua-born talent, recovered and ready to get you hyped for their next big show in the city.

ListenSD: What does success truly mean to you when performing at a major festival like CRSSD?

Midnight Generation: It has truly been a challenge for us. We’ve been working hard on our music, and it makes us very happy to be able to play in different countries. Receiving the love of Latino fans in every place we visit has been an emotional experience.

LSD: What is the difference between your festival set and a set for a smaller venue?

Midnight Generation: When you organize a festival show, you have to bring a lot of energy. You have to pick the main tracks and the elements that connect best. At the end of the day, it’s about showing who we are; we love that vibe of sharing our essence from the stage.

LSD: As a Mexican band, you often work abroad. How do you experience that difference?

Midnight Generation: We believe that even if you don’t always see many Mexican artists out there, there is so much talent in our country. There’s no reason not to make music that can cross borders. We are doing our own thing, learning a lot by being in different countries; it’s been a very interesting experience to see the band continue to grow and move forward.

LSD: Any Mexican bands from your generation or collaborators you can recommend?

Midnight Generation: Sure! As a producer, I really like Alanisky and everything he’s doing with his record. Also, the Los Épicos project. There are many local professionals doing incredible things. One of the biggest challenges is often the language, because people always ask us why we sing in English, but we always say that music is the universal language. It doesn’t matter if you are Mexican, Turkish, or Brazilian—music connects everyone.

LSD: There are many bands coming out of places like Tijuana. What can you tell us about the scene in Mexico right now?

Midnight Generation: Tijuana is one of the places with the most history. It’s very cool to see how things are developing, especially in the north, and to see artists getting recognized. There are friends we’ve talked to for years who are still there and new projects emerging; it’s a very beautiful experience.

LSD: With so much touring, what do you miss most about your daily life?

Midnight Generation: I think the routine. At the end of the day, we try to be authentic people. When you are in your professional phase and living at this pace, you don’t stop to think much, but we are always grateful for the time we get to play and share.

LSD: Any plans to return to San Diego soon?

Midnight Generation: Absolutely. We hope to be back next year.
