IDLES absolutely wrecked Pappy and Harriet’s, then immediately reconstructed the whole place with love

IDLES

British rockers IDLES are currently on their second half of a US leg tour, and they spent this past weekend playing two nights and the famous Pappy and Harriet’s in Pioneertown CA. ListenSD was lucky enough to catch them on their first night, and wow what a night! Opening up for the boys IDLES was Brooklyn’s Gustaf, and damn what a band. They gave off an ESG inspired post-punk sound, and everyone in attendance was in a complete trance from start to finish.

Then an eager wait for IDLES to take the stage began as everyone crowded the stage and chugged their beers as they prepared for a mosh pit of the year. IDLES took the stage, and that’s exactly what happened as they played “Colossus”, a perfect way to start a concert. A song that starts off slow and little by little progresses in speed, and aggression. Towards the end of the song, they do a 20-second pause and burst into this loud, fast, explosion of sound. It sent the crowd into a wild frenzy where more beer was being thrown than actually poured down throats.

The night just took off from there and never let down, guitarists Mark Bowen and Lee Kiernan spent more time in the crowd than they spent on stage. Lee took a whole lap around the venue and came back to the stage riding on top of someone’s shoulders. Seeing IDLES was a shitshow in the most beautiful way and should never be passed up. ALL IS LOVE.
