Gipsy Kings at Sycuan Casino Heritage Event Center

On Saturday, March 14th, 2026, Sycuan Casino hosted the renowned Gipsy Kings featuring Tonino Baliardo as part of their Historia Tour. Much like the diverse communities that make up the beautiful city of San Diego, the Gipsy Kings are artists from Spain and France singing in a variety of romantic languages such as Catalan, Occitan, French, Italian, and Spanish.Matching the standard casino attendees, it was evident from the beginning of the evening that much of the audience had been long-time Gipsy Kings fans. As you walked to the third subterranean floor for the Sycuan Casino Heritage Event Center, you were greeted by the mixture of coffee, cigarettes, elegant perfumes, couples, and friend groups who probably grew up dancing to classic songs like “Baila Me” and “Pida Me La.”

The large conference-style ballroom was converted into a makeshift music venue with rows of auditorium-style chairs and a medium-sized stage, which hosted the dramatic ensemble of upwards of six guitars, synthesizer, bass, maracas, drums, cajón, chimes, and bright stage lights. Though many seats were empty, one would have thought it was a sold-out room, as the liveliness, high-octane chatter, and excitement were palpable in the room.
Promptly at 8:00 P.M., Tonino Baliardo – lead guitar, founder family member; Canut Reyes – vocals / guitar; Mario Reyes – guitar; Thomas Reyes – vocals / guitar; Kakou Reyes – vocals / guitar; Léo Chazallet – bass; Joseph Cortes – drums / percussion; and Fred Bretón – keyboards arrived on stage, greeted by big smiles, clapping, and song requests for “Amor Mio.”The Gipsy Kings’ impeccable and advanced, fast-paced compositions filled the room with a happiness and joy that, even to newcomers like our ListenSD team, was impossible not to be positively affected by, with the blend of rumba, flamenco, and salsa in songs like “Bem Bem Maria” and “Amor, Amor.”

The night culminated in a beautiful moment as everyone in the crowd sang passionately along to “Sin Ella,” a reminder of the love, dedication, and romanticism that fills many of their songs. Of course, the Gipsy Kings left the audience energized and satisfied as they ended the night with “Bamboleo,” and their famous covers of “Volare” and “My Way.”
For those interested in having a night of dancing, you can find their next show at one of the locations in the USA, or across the globe, as part of their 2026 Historia Tour. Additionally, you can listen to their new album Historia, set to release May 15th, 2026.
