Legends Fleetwood Mac electrified the stage Saturday night at Viejas Arena.
The ever-changing lineup featured long time group members Stevie Nicks (vocalist), Christine Mcvie (keyboardist/vocalist), Mick Fleetwood (drummer), and John Mcvie (bassist), and with additional rock heros, Neil Finn of Crowded House and Mike Campbell, of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Fleetwood Mac shattered the stage early with several hits, quickly building a strong energy throughout the crowd. The energy swayed and whirled as Stevie Nicks performed βDreamsβ with sweet confidence, making the crowd fall in love with her texture all over again. Mike Campbell painted mesmerized faces with the smooth riffs of βBlack Magic Woman,β an early Fleetwood Mac original later made popular by Carlos Santana.
The showβs half time was headlined by a dramatic, fast paced, drum solo by Mick Fleetwood himself, reminding the crowd of the bandsβ momentous rock and roll history. Neil Finnβs rustic voice rang true as he performed Crowded House mega hit βDont Dream Itβs Overβ with the support of the whole band. Fleetwood Mac wrapped up with a moving performance of fan favorite βYou Can Go Your Own Way,β then blessed the crowd with a touching Tom Petty cover of βFree Falling.β The bands love for the recently belated Tom Petty was apparent as pictures of previous tours were displayed during the tribute. Unsure if there will be another tour by the group so influential to many, the performance moved the crowd with a tangible wave of mixed emotions.
