JJUUJJUUJJUUJJUU, play at SPACE Bar December 20th with Lumerians and Cat Scan. ListenSD asked Phil Pirrone, the band’s lead singer and founder of Desert Daze, to let us know what he’s been listening to at the moment. His psychedelic, sexy, trippy playlist show off a little of what you can expect at their upcoming show and a lot of what you’ll see at next year’s Desert Daze.

1. Lumerians — “Masters Call

Lumerians have been one of the most important bands in my life since 2011 or so. Great friends. Tyler and Chris helped out with the recording and mixing of multiple JJUUJJUU releases. We’ve slept on their floors and couches, and vice versa.

2. Altin Gün — “Tatli Dile Güler Yüze

Love this band at the moment. Turkish psych. JJUUJJUU listens to this in the van quite a bit. Hoping to play with them soon. Maybe at a festival… or something.

3. Khruangbin — “Evan Finds The Third Room

Saw them at SXSW a few years back. I was blown away and have been listening ever since. I love that bands like this and BADBADNOTGOOD exist and flourish. It gives me hope. All around, this band just makes sense to me.

4. Suuns — “Look No Further

One of my favorite bands ever. We got to play a few shows with them a few years back (including a show at Casbah). There are no words to describe my love for this bands music. This is my regular before show music. JJUUJJUU is constantly listening to this in the dressing room (or van)… Their new record is dope and this is the first track from it. That tom/drum sound in the beginning gets me hyped.

5. Beak — “Sex Music

Another one of my all time favorite bands. Saw them for the first time at Desert Daze and it was a serious highlight for me. We listen to this around the house almost exclusively. I want to see this band play every night.
