The Night Beats

The Night Beats

Night Beats brought their rainy Seattle-style weather and psychedelic sounds to the Casbah Saturday night in San Diego with New York pals The Mystery Lights and LA band Warbly Jets supporting.

Standing in rain puddles and cigarette smoke, leather clad twenty and thirty-somethings stood in circles in and around the Casbah, anticipating a solid Saturday night lineup of garage rock ‘n’ roll.

The night kicked off with five-piece Los Angeles band Warbly Jets, so new their tunes aren’t even on Spotify yet. They sported a tight, leather style of 60’s English mod, with long flowing hair that reads Southern California. Their catchy rock tunes were fun to bop around to and kick things off.

The Mystery Lights played next, a band bursting with energy from the top of their heads down to their levitating toes. With screams, shouts, jumps, and freak-outs, lead singer Mike Brandon aggressively commanded the stage while simultaneously gave off a laid-back flower child vibe. In short, watching them perform was damn enjoyable.

Night Beats closed the night, wearing Southern Western vaquero garb and playing their own brand of bluesy, dirty psychedelia, including a few tracks off their new album Who Sold My Generation.  The crowd attempted some roughhouse crowd surfing which quickly got shut down by strong men wearing “STAFF” shirts. If you don’t catch these guys next time they’re in town… go away.
