On the last night of their U.S. tour, L.A. Witch played a bewitching, bluesy set to an enthusiastic crowd at Soda Bar.

Most Friday nights at the City Heights venue Soda Bar are bound to be busy. Last Friday, May 19, was no exception–the bar was packed to the gill with rowdy concert goers there to see L.A. Witch and Mr. Elevator play with KEEPERS from San Diego starting off the evening.

After noise rockers KEEPERS wrapped up, Mr. Elevator from Los Angeles took over the stage with a pysch-rock set. A three piece comprised of drums, bass, and keys, some of their more jazzier songs were reminiscent of 60s legends The Doors. Singer Thomas Dolas’s bouncy organ and vocals brought to mind both The Doors’s keyboard instrumentation (sans Ray Manzarek’s signature flourish and keyboard bass lines, however) and Jim Morrison’s croon.

L.A. Witch started off with the haunting “Kill My Baby.” From Los Angeles (obviously) L.A. Witch is a three piece playing rock music with blues, garage rock, and psych influences. With minimal stage banter and acknowledgment of the audience, the trio ran through their set list. Many of their songs were slower numbers but faster ones like “Drive Your Car” seemed to be the most popular with the raucous Friday night audience. They closed out their set without an encore, not surprising considering their no fuss stage presence throughout. However, the crowd couldn’t get enough–as soon as L.A. Witch walked off stage, a small group of admirers surrounded them.

L.A. Witch doesn’t have a lot recorded yet, however they’re releasing their debut full length this Summer on Suicide Squeeze. Follow their social for updates!
