The Hella Mega Tour at Petco Park

When the Hella Mega Tour was announced in 2019 I could have never expected it to have as big of an impact as it did.

Almost two years later, the kings of teenage angst Green DayFall Out Boy, and Weezer all took the stage and for almost 5 hours did not let it go.

An exhilarated sold-out crowd of the mainly late 30s and early 40s dads, who are tasked with showing their kids “the music they grew up with,” clung along to every show-stopping moment. The crowd was engaged from start to finish, enjoying the pyrotechnic show coming out of Fall Out Boy’s bassist Pete Wentz’s bass to lighting up the sky with phones for “Boulevard of Broken Dreams.”

While the new music from all three legendary bands is not up to par in terms of quality as their ubiquitous material, the catharsis of hearing those old classics along with the return of packed arenas and crowd involvement made for a very special Sunday afternoon.

It’s impossible to witness a grand show without mentioning COVID-19, but this concert truly felt like that even among all the craziness that is surrounding the world, music and a cohesive experience is all one needs to keep chugging along!
