The Naked and Famous played the newly renovated North Park Theatre Wednesday night in support of their new album, In Rolling Waves.

The band showed great growth in their stage show since playing 91x’s Wrex the Halls in 2012, where they played an early set while the Sports Arena still filled in.

The North Park Theatre provided the perfect venue for the show. The former theater, connected to West Coast Tavern, has had the seats cleared out, and will be challenging Belly Up for the title of San Diego’s best year-round venue. Kudos to the redesign for installing air conditioning vents on the floor, keeping the place from becoming as hot as some of its downtown counterparts. The venue’s acoustics are fantastic, and the open space provided room for the sold out crowd to party along with the band.

It certainly helped that the band played an energetic, incredible show. The bands dual front-people, Alisa Xayalith and Thom Powers, opened with two of the bands more recognizable numbers, rocking through “Punching in a Dream” and “Girls Like You.” The two kept the crowd engaged throughout, before taking a brief break and playing a three song encore culminating in “Young Blood,” igniting the audience in to a frenzy which felt like a small festival had broken out inside the theatre.

Both the band and venue shone Wednesday night- make sure to check out the North Park Theatre, and the band on their next go-round.
