There is nothing small about the sounds blossoming from the single “World Alone” by Small Culture from their soon to be released debut EP.

This track features the lusciously smooth vocals of Nicolette Valicenti, a mysterious local uber-talent who brings a carefree sway to the glorious arrangement and production of this tune.  Who knew this song is actually an up-beat hipster/indie take on a track from the gloomy pop goddess Lorde’s monumental album “Pure Heroine”.

Small Culture is the project of creative islander Jerik Centeno and is self-described as “kaleidoscope of sounds” with a name that represents “coming from a small island with lots of culture”.  Drummer Steven Brown weaves colorful poly-rhythms with Centeno’s jangly pulse of guitar and supporting vocal work.  Their previous single “Synthetica” caught the ears of San Diego CityBeat, Indie Rock Cafe and various critics back in March. “People are talking” or they soon will be after hearing this song soar from the speakers!

Small Culture has a show at Lestat’s West on Thursday, May 19th supporting national touring indie juggernauts Flight of Ryan (AZ) and Carmen & Camille (CAN).
