After booking solid monthly events for three quarters of 2014 at U-31 in North Park, ListenSD changed their game and hosted their first Local Obsession Night at Soda Bar off El Cajon Blvd.
The response was incredible, as lots of members of the community came out in droves to support their local scene. With a lineup including indie pop favorites Hills Like Elephants, folk pop rockers Ed Ghost Tucker and pyschedelic twangers Amerikan Bear, the crowd shook and grooved and danced the night away.
Amerikan Bear started the night right, as a magnificent backdrop of swirling, pyschdelic colors (done live with a projector, some food coloring and straw) lit up the stage and complimented their desert-y breed of rock and roll. They ended the set with a 15-min long jam sesh that blew everyone away. Ed Ghost Tucker was up next and slowed things down with a lovely blend of folksy male/female duo vocals, simplistic pop-riddled beats and soul. And finally Hills Like Elephants closed out the night with pure indie dance music, getting everyone on the floor grooving to their fun and catchy tunes.
Major shoutouts to Soda Bar for the venue, Shaper Studios for hosting, DJ Man Cat for the sweet in-between tunes, all the bands who played, and of course, our friends and members of the community who came out to support! We love you all and hope to see everyone at future ListenSD Local Obsession Nights.
