King Princess gave an incredible performance to a sold-out Observatory North Park.

Even the casual music listeners have had a hard time escaping King Princess’s viral 2018 single “1950.” In fact, her previous stop in San Diego was a sold-out show at Little Italy’s Music Box, with only 4 songs released at the time. King Princess, born Mikaela Strauss, would then go on to perform at 2019’s Coachella, captivating a larger fan base and solidifying her rising-star status.

Tuesday’s performance was part of her Cheap Queen Tour, in support of her 2019 debut album of the same name. Her performance makes it clear why she cites influences like Perfume Genius, Nick Cave, Beyoncé, and Dolly Parton. King Princess has an effortless stage presence, both practiced and authentic during her crowd interactions. Straus’ guitar playing really deserves it’s own appreciation post, as Straus demonstrated her incredible skills during quite a few solos during the show.

An artist with an incredible future ahead, we can’t wait to see what she does next and for her to come back through San Diego soon.
