In middle school, I wrote an essay on Marie Curie – the first and only woman to win the Nobel Prize twice, and to a young feminist (and everyone!), an inspirational, historical figure. Standing surrounded by Jennifer Steinkamp’s overwhelmingly beautiful, panoramic, visual art installation that was inspired by the drawings of plants done by Marie Curie felt all that much more significant.

“All my life through, the new sights of Nature made me rejoice like a child.” – Marie Curie

The installation and the stunning combination of music, people, art, and performance that spilled into the space on Thursday night was magical. Everyone wore colorful outfits seemingly inspired by the moving flowers and trees projected on the walls and ceiling. Conversations about art, life, love, and politics danced around the room as people held handmade flower arrangements close in their arms.

The evening included a live performance by the extraordinary Gina Osterloh and live performances by Vákoum and Mystery Cave.
