I’m all about honesty so I’m not going to lie to you, dear reader: At our dinner at House of Blues Restaurant & Bar, we ate our dessert first.

That’s right. Instead of ordering spring rolls or salads before our entrees like normal girls do, my friend Alexa and I decided to go big and then also go home, but with full happy cookie abdomens. One of my HOB life hacks that I quickly learned was to not get too stuffed before dessert because their desserts are so good. So, now we eat dessert first and our salads later, if at all. And we feel nothing but joy and empowerment and maybe a little defensive about the need to wear sweatpants all day with the ties really not tied at all.

The Skillet Cookie—aka, the reason my sweatpants stayed loose this week.

We needed something to wash our first course down, so we picked the best cocktail for the job: the Boom Boom Mule. This refreshing variation on a traditional favorite always knows whether to warm me up or cool me down. I like to think of it as nature’s perfect cocktail.

I’ve got that Boom Boom Mule

Once we got our whistles whiskey’d we moved on to the Foothills Flatbread. The sweet corn provided a perfect balance to the roasted mushrooms and caramelized onions. The feta cheese and cilantro pesto perfected the dish with a salty, tangy flavor.

Vegetarians rejoice! The Foothills Flatbread is here.

We saved up just enough room for the Shrimp Tacos! Full of Cajun flavor, this dish has a ton of taste but isn’t too spicy for those completely heat intolerant. The deep smoky flavor of the remoulade sauce paired beautifully with smooth buttery slices of avocado.

The Shrimp Tacos were a Cajun delight!

And the best part—we had already eaten our dessert! It was off to make a stop to the House of Blues box office, where we planned for our next adventure: Missio live in concert on March 29! At the time of publication, the two musicians both have nice beards so I hope the cookie skillet doesn’t get stuck in it! If you are looking for an upbeat high energy show with hook-y music and inspiring beats, this is the night for you!
