Deftones returned to Petco Park for their second annual Dia De Los Deftones festival

It was a perfect San Diego sunny day at Petco Park; festival attendees treated themselves to Micheladas, listened to Mariachis sing Mexican classics, took selfies in front of the many art installations, and listened to great live music throughout the day. Deftones returned for their second annual Dia De Los Deftones – a Dia De Los Muertos themed music festival featuring artists of different genres performing on two different stages, flanked by colorful memorials, and skeletons scattered around the park to celebrate the holiday.

The day included JPEGMAFIA giving it his all onstage, in an energetic performance reminiscent of Death Grips, but with a much lighter sound. Gojira sounded amazing live, with both guitars and vocals were on point. Chvrches were also incredible and sounded much better live than on record. The sound was fantastic – vocals, guitars, and synths all blended together perfectly.

To end the night, Deftones delivered a career spanning set that had everyone singing along, crowd surfing, and having a good time. Deftones played all their classics, and to my surprise Chino Moreno’s voice is still perfectly intact; he can still scream!
