Kurt Vile

Kurt Vile

Kurt Vile & The Violators came to San Diego on Thursday night at the House of Blues San Diego. It wasn’t a sold out show but it should have been.

As I waited on the crowded upper bar area I wondered, how good of a show is this really going to be? I love the folky sound and hard rock that Vile brings together, don’t get me wrong, but a lot of his songs are at a very slow pace. Would there been any pushing, shoving, fighting for a view? So as the lights dimmed my excitement emerged.

When the long haired man and his band appeared, a warm applause and yells were given. Kurt started off with playing tunes with more guitar, bass and piano influenced. Guitar solos really were the king of the performances & seeing him rock out on an acoustic was really bad ass. I was into it. I would catch myself day dreaming deeply when songs such as Pretty Pimpin’ were being played & hoped for no interruptions. He switched from being a full band to a solo folk artist & the crowed lived for it. I feel as if they all were on the same page as me. Letting their dreams run thru their minds as they held their partner & raised the PBR to Vile. I have to say, KV sure did give me a run for my money & didn’t disappoint. The only disappointing thing I saw and heard was the crowd trying to bring him back for an encore. Vile & the Violators took care of the remaining crowd though, and graced the stage with two more tracks. Thanks again for showing San Diego how real artist perform.
